Holiday Wine Festival Benefits CASA

Posted
Do you have a taste for wine or unique beer?

If so, then the CASA Holiday Wine Festival may be right up your alley.

This year's event is Friday at 6 p.m. the Biomet Hangar at Warsaw Airport. The event features a variety of wines and beers and will be served with hors d'oeuvres from Noa Noa, Cerulean, Maple Leaf Farms, Mad Anthony's, 1000 Park Baking Company and Penguin Point.

A variety of items also will be available for bidding at the silent auction. A few items in the auction include wine baskets, jewelry, movie tickets, dinners at local restaurants, Indianapolis Colts tickets and a cut glass decanter with four glasses.

Wine and beer featured at the fundraiser will be sold at the event. All wines at the event will be discounted at 10 percent, and 10 percent of the sales will be donated to CASA.

Coffees from Blue Lion Coffeehouse and Roaster will serve coffee at the event, and 50 percent of all coffees sold Friday night will go directly to CASA.

There also will be non-alcoholic beer and wine available for tasting at the event.

"Nearly everything at this fundraiser has been donated," said CASA Executive Director Sally Mahnken. "Everything we make at the event goes directly to the children. That's why we are here."

Currently, Barb A'Hearn, George Brennan, president of the CASA board, and Mahnken are making final preparations for the event, which is in its seventh year. The event is the largest fundraiser for CASA each year, and about 350 people are expected to attend. This annual fundraiser ensures the CASA program continues to be a viable agency working on behalf of abused and neglected children, as well as those children caught in volatile custody disputes. In 2007, the CASA volunteers served the needs of 202 Kosciusko County children. Already in 2008, there has been an increase of 106 new children entering the system. At this point in 2008, the CASA volunteers have served nearly 200 with several weeks to go.

It costs approximately $500 to support a child in CASA for a year. Donations are always accepted to help children. For more information about donating to the program, contact the local CASA office at 574-372-2401.

Tickets are still available for the event. The cost is $50 per person, and tickets may be reserved until Wednesday by calling 574-372-2401. Visa and MasterCard or checks are accepted.
