A high-speed pursuit involving a young teen and two law enforcement agencies ended in a crash early Sunday morning.
Warsaw Police Department Cpl. Brandon Zartman saw a vehicle traveling the wrong way on a one-way street on the west side of Warsaw, according to the police report. He attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
Zartman followed the vehicle, which was driven by a 14 year-old boy, through residential areas and then onto the west side of Lake Street to Old Road 30 and then CR 350 West. The vehicle continued north and then eastbound on CR 200 North.
The teenager lost control of his vehicle near Fox Farm Road, and was reported to have sustained minor injuries while running from the scene.
Zartman said the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour. The chase involved WPD and Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies.
The teen’s 2007 Chevy Tahoe was extensively damaged and two KCSD and WPD vehicles received minor damage.
After fleeing, the driver was located at his home nearby. He admitted to his involvement in the chase.
The teen, who did not have a license, told police he took the family vehicle and became scared when Zartman attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Information from this incident has been forwarded to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's office for juvenile referral to Kosciusko County Probation.
