Heirloom Tomato To Have Agricultural Art Show And Baking Contests

PIERCETON – There will be an Agricultural Art Show contest this year during the Pierceton Heirloom Tomato Festival Saturday.
Bring in your own art work that must have an agricultural theme. All art mediums are accepted. There will be two age groups: youth and adult. Bring your art to the Old Train Depot on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. There is mo limit on the number of entries or the size of the artwork. Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality and overall composition. There will be a $5 entry fee per piece. Cash prizes will be awarded including a people’s choice. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. Saturday, according to a provided news release.
A tomato baking contest will be at 1 p.m. in the Old Train Depot. Two categories of baked goods will be judged: Sweet and Savory. The item must have a tomato as an ingredient. Contestants may enter multiple items.
Bring your baked items in a disposable, non-returnable container. The baking contest items will be sold immediately following the judging. Ingredients must be included on a 3x5 card. First prize of each category will win $50. Second prize will win $25. For more information and the specific rules, go to Piercetonchamber.org.
If you have a tomato garden, contests for largest (heaviest) tomato, largest tomato worm, and any weird, lumpy or strange shaped tomato. These winners will receive a $10 cash prize. Bring your tomatoes and worms to the Old Train Depot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for judging. Judging will be at 3 p.m.
How far can you spit a cherry tomato? The Cherry Tomato Spitting Contest will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Brower Park. The scavenger hunt returns this year with a $250 cash prize. Another scavenger hunt for kids is being added this. Information on the spitting contest and the scavenger hunts may be found at the information booth located in Brower Park.
