Sandbags were brought Monday out in anticipation of heavy rains, as pictured here at Paws and Claws pet shop on East Market Street. Fortunately, the heaviest bands of rain missed Warsaw.
Megan Dodson, meteorologist with National Weather Service in North Webster, said the highest reported rainfall in Kosciusko County was 2 miles west/southwest of Syracuse with 1.59 inches as of 7 a.m. today and that is a 24-hour total.
A total of 1.35 inches was reported 2 miles southwest of Warsaw, and 1.14 inches was reported 1 mile east of Winona Lake. Dodson said the highest reported regional rainfall was 10.45 inches in Walkerton, with the airport there reporting 8.49 inches.
Most rainfall reports were between 5 to 10 inches. Only a couple more hundredths of an inch of rain are expected today and into Wednesday. For the rest of the week, she said there will be scattered rains and thunderstorms, but nothing like Monday night is expected.
