'Happy Days' Actor Henry Winkler Comes to Winona Lake

WINONA LAKE – Henry Winkler, who played “Fonzi” on the 1970s sitcom “Happy Days,” will speak in Winona Lake this month.

Winkler will speak March 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Orthopaedic Capital Center in Winona Lake during Grace College’s Transitions Exploration Day. The event is free and open to the public.

Winkler is an actor, director, producer and author.

Winkler will share his own story of overcoming  obstacles. He will address the student body and visitors during chapel at the OCC.

Winkler will serve as the keynote speaker for Transition Exploration Day, an event during which area high school students with disabilities will visit Grace College.

Following chapel, a Transition Exhibition will be held in the upper concourse of the OCC, during which time the visiting students will be able to explore career opportunities at booths hosted by local agencies and businesses.

Transition Exploration Day is sponsored in part by the Council for Exceptional Children student chapter.

According to the official website, the Council for Exceptional Children “is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and, or gifts and talents.”

Cheryl Bremer, Grace College special education professor, is excited about how this day will impact both Grace students and faculty and those visiting for Transition Exploration Day.

“This is going to be a great event, both for Grace College and for area students with disabilities,” Bremer said. “It will give Grace students a chance to gain a deeper understanding and increased awareness of disabilities, and it will allow students with disabilities to envision futures for themselves beyond what they thought was possible.”

Bremer said she hopes the Transition Exploration Day will be the first of many to come.
