The newly formed Women Build Committee of Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County is inviting women to attend the kickoff of Women Build 2012. Women Build teaches women to do construction and gives women the opportunity to actively address the problem of families in substandard housing. Lowe’s is the underwriter of the Women Build program, and by 2013 Lowe’s will have contributed nearly $40 million to Habitat For Humanity. The event will be Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1720 E. Center St., Warsaw. In order to accomplish the goal to complete Women Build in Kosciusko County, $70,400 must be raised as well as finding more than 200 volunteers. The first step toward the initiative is the Women Build Kickoff Thursday. The committee hopes to fill the room with at least 150 women interested in helping accomplish the goal. Snacks and refreshments for the event are being provided by Sodexo, the dining provider at Grace College. In addition, Lowe’s will host its first in a series of Women Build Workshops Feb. 18, “How To Safely Use Hand and Power Tools,” between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone interested may stop into the Lowe’s, 2495 Jalynn St., Warsaw, for a how-to instruction.Future clinics will include “How To Frame Walls and Roofs,” “How To Install Exterior Siding,” “How To Install Roofing Shingles,” “How To Install Insulation and Drywall” and “How To Finish Interior With Paint and Trim.” Habitat For Humanity International officially formed the Women Build department in 1998 to promote involvement of women in the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes.
