Staff Report-
The rain barrels from Habitat For Humanity of Kosciusko County’s fundraiser and public art project “Rain on Kosciusko 2013” will make their debut today at First Friday in downtown Warsaw. There are 19 rain barrels that will be on display, as well as at the Northern Indiana Lakes Festival Saturday in Center Lake Park. The barrels will then return to their downtown locations along Center, Buffalo and Market streets on display until the end of July. As part of the First Friday, a contest has been unveiled for the barrel creation of Habitat board member Kelly Duncan and her husband Dan. They are looking for inspiration to finish their barrel and are seeking the public’s help. Individuals are encouraged to look over the barrel and then submit their best idea for exactly what it is or what it could become. Entry sheets will be available at the barrel. The winning entry will be selected later this month, and the individual will receive two tickets to the Josh Turner concert at the Honeywell Center in August. Tickets are courtesy of the Honeywell Center. In addition, individuals are invited to vote on their favorite barrel via donations, with the highest grossing barrel being named People’s Choice, at the official barrel page on the Habitat Kosciusko website: www.kosciuskohabitat.com/fundraisers/rain-on-kosciusko/2013/ Individuals also can bid on the barrel of their choice via online silent auction. Voting and biding are currently open. Rain barrels are very similar to the role that Habitat plays in the community; the barrels are simple, decent, affordable, efficient and utilize resources wisely. Habitat provides simple, decent, affordable and efficient housing utilizing the volunteer resources within the community. For more information on Habitat for Humanity, visit www.kosciuskohabitat.com
