Grace Provost Featured Speaker At KYLA Graduation Banquet May 7

Grace College Provost Dr. William Katip will be the featured speaker at the annual Kosciusko Youth Leadership Academy awards banquet.

The 2007-2008 banquet is May 7 at 6 p.m. at 2517 Restaurant, Warsaw.

There are 30 KYLA graduates this year.

"I am excited to have this opportunity to share some thoughts with these student leaders," Katip said."They have already made significant contributions to their schools and communities, and I am honored to be a part of their graduation ceremony."

The graduates are juniors from Warsaw Community High School, Wawasee High School, Whitko High School, Lakeland Christian Academy, Tippecanoe Valley High School and Triton High School.

The graduates participated in Project Proud, where each student volunteer spends at least 10 hours doing community service projects. There will be an award given to a group based on their project. KYLA board members select the group.

Katip has served as Grace College's provost since June.

Katip was born and raised in Pontiac, Mich. He is a 1974 graduate of Grace College with a double major in Bible studies and psychology.

Katip also is a 1977 graduate of Purdue University where he earned his master's degree in clinical psychology. In 1986, he completed his doctorate in higher education administration at Michigan State University.

Katip's professional background includes 34 years of college administration, teaching and counseling experience. His experience includes college admissions, students life and academic affairs.

Katip formerly lived in Beaver Falls, Pa., from 1989 to 2007. He served 10 years as the provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs at Robert Morris University.

In addition to his college experience, Katip has served as a medical social worker and counselor. His counseling experience involves working independently and through several agencies.

While living in Pennsylvania, Katip served on the Allegheny County Board of the Salvation Army and was a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Advisory Board of the Boy Scouts of America.

Katip also is a board member of Beaver County Christian School and Grace College.
