Grace College Roundup: Kuhl Named CL, NCCAA Defender Of The Week

Posted
WINONA LAKE - Grace’s phenomenal freshman Anna Kuhl was honored as the Women’s Soccer Defender of the Week by the NCCAA and the Crossroads League.

Kuhl’s honor came after a game-winning moment in the CL Tournament. Kuhl struck the winning goal to beat No. 15 Marian 1-0 in the semifinals, putting Grace into the title game of the tournament.

Kuhl serves as a central defender for Grace’s backline. She helped Grace post a pair of shutouts last week, blanking Marian in the semifinals and Huntington in the quarterfinals.

The No. 16 Lady Lancers will play at No. 3 Spring Arbor on Saturday at 4 p.m. The winner of that match will claim an automatic bid to NAIA Nationals, while the loser will hope for an at-large invitation.

Harrington, Novotny Earn Player Of The

Week Awards

WINONA LAKE - After winning its opening round match in the Crossroads League Tournament, Grace’s volleyball team won two Player of the Week awards on Monday.

Gina Novotny and Gabbey Harrington were both honored, Novotny as the Defender of the Week and Harrington as the Setter of the Week.

Harrington’s honor was notable as she was filling in for the injured Alexa Hill, who is an All-American setter for the Lady Lancers. Harrington had 37 assists, 9 digs and 8 kills in a 3-0 win over Taylor in the quarterfinals of the CL Tournament. For the week, Harrington averaged 12.7 assists, 2.9 digs and 1.9 kills per set.

Novotny was again stellar for the Grace’s backline, notching 49 digs in two matches. She averaged an incredible seven digs per set and had 23 in the Taylor win.

Grace will visit top-seeded Marian Wednesday night in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
