Governor Helps Bowen Center Open Opioid Recovery Center In Fort WayneFORT WAYNE – Gov. Eric Holcomb spoke briefly Wednesday at the grand opening for an opioid recovery center operated by Bowen Center in Fort Wayne.

The Bowen Recovery Center offers methadone medication, onsite individual and group outpatient counseling. It is located at 1415 Directors Row, which is along West Coliseum Boulevard in Fort Wayne.

In a statement released Wednesday, Holcomb said, “Friends, when I was traveling throughout our state in 2016, I saw firsthand the full effect of our devastating opioid crisis. I directly saw the terrible effects of substance use disorder and heard the gut-wrenching stories: Babies born addicted to drugs, high school athletes who get hooked on the pills they’re prescribed for sports injuries, elderly Hoosiers with chronic pain problems. These people struggling with this disorder come from all walks of life, and tragically, sometimes they don’t make it to recovery. I knew we had to do more, much more.”

After he was sworn in as governor in 2017, Holcomb said he started working to reverse the opioid crisis “with a laser focus on prevention, treatment and enforcement.

“And earlier today, I was proud to help open the Bowen Recovery Center, an opioid treatment center in Fort Wayne. These new opioid treatment centers are continuing to open throughout the state, and they’re playing a critical role in making sure nearly every Hoosier is within an hour’s drive or less of treatment and help.”

The statement says there is no single solution or secret weapon to end the opioid epidemic, but treatment facilities are vital resources in the fight.

“These efforts are just the beginning. I know it will take time for us to overcome this crisis. But, together, we can help those suffering move on the road to recovery, and help families and communities that are struggling,” he said.

The Bowen Recovery Center is a division of The Bowen Center.

The Warsaw-based Bowen Center offers services to help people cope with addiction, autism, depression, stress, anxiety, grief and other issues.
