Gov. To Be Honored At Local 'Spine Award' Dinner

Posted
State House of Representative District 22 candidate Rebecca Kubacki is planning a dinner to honor Governor Mitch Daniels.

Rather than the usual golf outing as a fundraising event for a candidate, Kubacki will host the first annual Spine Award Dinner.

Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Kubacki for her run for state representative. The general election is Nov. 2.

Dr. Dane Miller is the honorary chairman for the event.

The public is invited to attend the dinner with Daniels. For ticket information call Kubacki at 574-457-4458.

Tickets are $100 per person and seating is limited. The dinner is Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, Leesburg.

"The Spine Award will be given to Daniels who has shown real backbone and stood up for principal and for doing what is right, not what is popular," Kubacki said.

"I am honored that Governor Daniels has graciously agreed to be the first recipient of the Spine Award."

Kubacki said Daniels' governing style has been different than most elected officials.

She said after Daniels inherited a budget that was $700 million in debt, he did not blame the previous governor. He paid the debt off and balanced the budget every year without raising taxes.

"Operating in the black would not be possible without making some very difficult decisions," Kubacki said.

She said these decisions have resulted in Indiana being recognized as one of the most successful states in the country.

"Those decisions were not always popular, but important and right for the state and Hoosiers," Kubacki said.
