Give Food, Get Clip 'N' Cash

Posted
Readers looking to pad their stash of Clip 'N' Cash for Saturday's auction can do just that while helping out a good cause.

From now through Friday, anyone bringing a non-perishable food item to the Salvation Army Food Pantry will receive $500 in Clip 'N' Cash for each item.

On Aug. 5, we published a story about the food pantry, noting that the Salvation Army is in need of donations.

"United Way of Kosciusko County gave us a $5,000 matching grant last November to purchase food for the pantry, but the money ran out last month," Salvation Army Captain Dale Brandenburg said.

He said the pantry has served 800 more families this year compared to last year. The Salvation Army's budget year begins Oct. 1 and runs through July 31.

The Salvation Army's food pantry has served 50 families per day this month.

"The goal is to be able to provide families with at least three meals and help meet their food needs so they have money to pay their bills," Brandenburg said.

He said unemployment checks have run out, and it is becoming difficult for families to put food on their tables.

People can drop off food donations at the Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Mondays through Fridays from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

We've provided Salvation Army employees with a stash of Clip 'N' Cash and they will give $500 for each food item received though Friday.

Aside from the Clip 'N' Cash promotion, the Salvation Army also accepts monetary donations that can be mailed to 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw, IN 46580.

Checks are to be made payable to Salvation Army with food pantry in the memo line.

Volunteers also are needed to help sort and distribute food. Call Ken Locke, community ministries director, at 574-267-5361 to become a volunteer.
