Ga. Man Rests In Warsaw On Hike To Delaware

Posted
PIERCETON – Josh Seehorn still has about 1,200 miles left in his hike across the country, so he was thankful for a rest near Warsaw Friday.
Seehorn, 27, from Athens, Ga., left California on foot March 21 on his way to Delaware. The purpose of his 4,800-mile hike and run along the American Discovery Trail is to raise awareness for the North American Envirothon, an event for high school students to develop natural resource management and ecology skills.
Seehorn, who holds a master’s degree in natural resources, and now serves as vice chair of the Georgia Envirothon, participated in the high school event as a kid. He got the idea for this year’s trek while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2011.
“I wanted to take on something bigger with this trip,” he remarked by phone Friday morning. He stayed last night with host family Darci Zolman, president of the Kosciusko County Soil Water Conservation District and coordinator of Envirothon activities in North Central Indiana.
“She brought me in for Thanksgiving,” Seehorn said.
He expects to reach the end of the Discovery Trail in Delaware at the end of January, though he will be keynote speaker Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Annual Conference of Indiana Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Indianapolis.
