Funds Being Raised For Legion Circle Three At Oakwood CemeteryFunds are being raised for the completion of Legion Circle Number Three at Oakwood Cemetery.

Post 49 trustees purchased land and Tom Kinch, Post 49 member, drew up paperwork for the $25,500 project.

Legion Circle Number One opened in 1934 and Legion Circle Number Two opened in 1998.Company L, the WWII National Guard Unit, had their last reunion and donated $139 for the project.

Judy Kinsey, granddaughter of "Sarge" Lichtenwalter, wrote a grant request to the Kosciusko County Community Foundation for the project.

Lichtenwalter is a veteran of the Mexican Border Campaign, and WWI France South Pacific New Guinea, Philippines. He was a sergeant during WWI and WWII.

The project is titled "On Behalf Of A Grateful Nation."

Grants for $7,500 and $3,000 were received from the Charles Bertsch Foundation; and Post 49, the Auxiliary Post 49, and the Sons of the American Legion donated $1,000 each for the project.

Fill dirt was donated by Everett Excavating. There will be 89 burial sites installed. A person must be a legion member to purchase a site and as at Arlington National Cemetery, the veterans' spouse or companion also may be buried at the site.
