Fundraisers Discussed at North Manchester School Meeting

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER – Community was a central theme for the North Manchester School Board Tuesday evening.
With the school year off to a swift start, fundraisers are just around the corner. Manchester High School Principal Nancy Alspaugh said there would be 53 fundraisers for the high school this year. Most of these fundraisers are athletic team-related.
“We try to do things that people will appreciate and enjoy, as well as helping with funds to support the teams,” Alspaugh said.
She said the other fundraisers aid in field trip costs to Indianapolis and Chicago for the seventh and eighth graders.
“We try very hard to limit the number of fundraisers where we’re selling candy and assorted items to families and the community,” Alspaugh said. “We’re conscious of trying to give a good product or service for that fundraiser.”
Alspaugh also mentioned that at the high school they would be offering three different types of internships for those students interested.
Manchester Intermediate School Principal Randy Self said they would be conducting “candygram” fundraisers again this year. Thes grams sell for a quarter and the “kids just enjoy doing it,” Self said.
He also announced that all of the fifth and sixth grade students have their iPads.
“Everything seems to be working well right now,” Self said. “We’re off to a really good start.”
Manchester Elementary School Principal Wes Mullett said they would continue with their successful Pennies for Patients fundraiser this year. This fundraiser supports the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The students bring in pennies to their classrooms for a week. Last year, MES students raised more than $800.
Mullett also discussed the success of the Begindergarten program. He said they used the DIAL 4 testing for 30 students. After the post test, he said there was a little less than 18 percent growth.
“We were pleased with a lot of growth in our students,” Mullett said.
Dr. Reichhart concluded the meeting by discussing the change in car drop off and pick-up. He has received positive feedback from some parents, who have agreed the new system is “safer and better.”
