Fundraiser At Hacienda For Feed My Starving Children

A fundraiser for Feed My Starving Children will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Hacienda. The fundraiser will assist in purchasing the food for MobilePacks for children in Uganda, Haiti and Honduras. Fundraiser participants must cut out the token in today’s Times-Union and bring it to Hacienda. A portion of the proceeds from the meals sold Tuesday will go to Feed My Starving Children. According to a press release from Feed My Starving Children, last year there were over 5,000 volunteers from the community who packed over 1 million meals that were distributed in Hati, Honduras and Uganda. A Christian non-profit founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children tackles world hunger by sending volunteer-packed, nutritious meals to 70 countries, where they’re used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. The Warsaw MobilePack will return to Warsaw Oct. 14 to 17, a collection drive to send food to Feed My Starving Children. It is the second year for the event. The event will take place at the Gordon Rec Center on Grace College Campus. In partnership with Warsaw Community Schools, local businesses and generous volunteers and donors, the goal is to make 1 million meals. Volunteers will be needed to help produce MannaPack Rice, a scientifically formulated food that is culturally acceptable worldwide. Adults and children ages 5 and up will measure and scoop ingredients, seal bags and prepare boxes for shipping. Organizations in nearly 70 countries around the world will then distribute these meals to children in greatest need. Volunteer registration will be available in early September. Each meal costs 22 cents to produce. Last October, volunteers young and old from Warsaw and beyond gathered over a three-day period at Madison Elementary School to work two-hour shifts for the Feed My Starving Children Warsaw MobilePack event. There were 1,003,104 meals packed by the community and shipped to Uganda, Haiti and Honduras. This was enough to feed 2,784 children for an entire year.
