KOI Drag Racing tonight starts a weekend of events at the Kosciusko County Fair, capped off by the Day at the Lake Sunday to benefit St. Jude’s hospital. Practice runs for the drag race start at 5 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults. Children ages 6 to 12 are $6, and kids under 5 are free. Pit passes are $15 for any age. The Fall Truck and Tractor Pulls will be Saturday evening, with gates opening at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 6 to 12, and free for kids under 5. Pitt passes are available for this event, too, for $15. The main event is the Day at the Lake Sunday, to benefit St. Jude’s Research and Children’s Hospital. Fair Board President Mike Loher noted last year’s event brought in about $40,000 to $50,00, and they hope to top that this weekend. “We’re always looking to break the record,” he remarked. “It’s the only event of its kind in the nation. One thing that makes us different is that it’s paid for by all the sponsors before it happens so all the ticket sales go to St. Jude.” The day starts with the 100-Mile Motorcycle Ride for Research, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. at the west gate. The first bike out leaves at noon and the last bike at 1 p.m. Main gates open at noon with food and merchandise vendors available. There is no cost to enter the gates. Merchandise vendors are It Works, Thirty One, Gone Country, Kozon Plumbing & Heating, Great Clips and Paul Davis Restoration. Food vendors, with such fare as elephant ears and kettle corn, are Fire In The Hole wood-fired pizzas, Beers Confectionery, Holy Smokes BBQ and Bayou Billy’s. Kids activities run from noon to 3 p.m. Activities include pony rides and a petting zoo, a bounce house, bungee run, dunk tank and a child I.D. clinic. Kids activities sponsors include Mel’s Pony Rides & Petting Zoo, Martin’s Supermarket, Walgreens, Awesome Hobbies, Owen’s Supermarket, National Guard, ML Motorsports, Big R and McDonald’s. On the fairgrounds midway from 3 to 6 p.m. is a free parking lot party featuring a corn toss tournament and a concert by Allan Craig Miller and The Nashville Machines. Lee Brice, Jason Michael Carroll and American Young perform Sunday night starting at 6 p.m. at the county fair grandstand. Gates open at 5 p.m. Reserved track tickets are $25 and general admission is $10. Tickets can be purchased at the county fair office or online at https://max.kcfair.org/scripts/max/2000/maxweb.exe Day at the Lake sponsors include FreightCo, Warsaw Autoplex, Keen Parts, The Revolving Closet, Nelson Beverage, Martin’s, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Kozon Plumbing and Heating, Creighton Brothers, OrthoPediatrics, Biomet, Polk Auction Company, Bishop Farms, Paragon Medical, Terry Shepherd Construction, Rabb Water, Berry Patch, Dental Solutions, Kosciusko County Fair, Evers Excavating, D&D Electrical Maintanence and Mike Long Family Farms.
