Nationally recognized speaker Bob Anastas will speak at local high schools and to the Warsaw Community High School PTO next week.
Anastas will present his "Check Into A Winning Life" to a student assembly at WCHS Monday at 8 a.m. From 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, he will speak to a student assembly at Whitko High School. His final high school presentation is at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at North Manchester High School.
Anastas, founder and former executive director of Students Against Driving Drunk, will speak at the WCHS PTO meeting Monday in the WCHS lecture room at 7 p.m. Attendees should park in front of the high school, use the main entrance and follow the signs to the lecture room. Dr. Jennifer Brumfield will deliver the principal's update concerning the building project. Parents of WCHS students and the public are invited to attend.
Anastas' "Check Into A Winning Life" program speaks to young people from a wide range of interests - athletics, student council members or club leaders. He encourages them to band together and establish a single, focused group - one that draws on their various talents and helps them deal effectively with the issues facing their school.
"Underage drinking and drunken driving are problems that students have made incredible progress against since 1982," said Anastas. "Today, while continuing to fight those problems, they must also confront other equally daunting challenges. The Check In concept helps them do that through positive peer pressure, networking and conflict-resolution skills. These students are powerful, and when they work together, I sincerely believe there is no problem they can't beat."
These presentations are made possible with support from Nelson Beverage.
