Forty-nine teams competed in Wednesday’s Community Quiz Bowl at the Warsaw Community High School Tiger Recreational Activity Center.
The winners were the Huskies, made up of Katie Maile, Deb Ettinger, Matt Deeds, Corrie Sewell and Shelby Dean.
Courtney Sale, executive director of the Warsaw Education Foundation (WEF), said the theme this year was NERDY, an acronym for Netflix, Education, Random, Desserts and Year in Review. In total, the groups would answer 60 questions.
The Huskies answered 44 of 60 questions correctly.
All proceeds from Wednesday’s event will go toward WEF programs like the Red Apple Grants and the Nontraditional Employment for Women workshop. This year's event raised $21,150.
This year, Sale said, WEF is trying to incorporate more students into the Quiz Bowl. There was a student photographer, a student doing the music, students made T-shirts and a student made a trophy the winning team could keep. There also was the traveling trophy the winners get to keep for a year before passing it on to the winning team next year.
Sale said she hoped people attending the Quiz Bowl were able to learn a little bit more about WEF and what the money goes towards, “as well as building community engagement and involvement to support the schools.” She hoped everyone had a really good time and WEF is able to support classrooms in a really innovative way.
Upon winning the Quiz Bowl, Deeds, the Harrison Elementary School principal, said it was really fun.
“We had a well-balanced team from all the different categories,” he said, adding their strategy was to decide quick, click fast.
