WINONA LAKE - The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Holiday Pops Concert is Sunday in Rodeheaver Auditorium.
Sponsored each year by the Lakeland Community Concert Association, the annual event is open to the public for $15 per person. Children 18 years old and younger or still in high school attend free when accompanied by an adult.
Now performing its 61st season, the Philharmonic's concert features soloist Lisa McDavid. Originally from Ohio, McDavid is a Fort Wayne resident. She began her singing career at 17 in various musical and theatrical presentations.
She joins the orchestra to sing a variety of holiday songs and to lead the popular audience sing-alongs.
The symphony, conducted by assistant conductor Bradley Thachuk, will feature a series of family favorites, including "The Christmas Festival," "March of the Toys," excerpts from "The Nutcracker Suite," "Sleigh Ride" and, new this year, music from "The Polar Express" and "The Grinch."
This is the second concert of LCCA's 2005-2006 season. Season subscriptions are $35.
Ticket holders may attend three more concerts in Rodeheaver Auditorium: Swingin' the Benny Goodman Songbook, featuring clarinetist Allan Vach, pianist Mark Shane and jazz vocalist Terry Blaine, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.; Van Cliburn Competition Medalist Chu-Fang Huang, March 19 at 2 p.m.; and The Montana Mandolin Society, April 15 at 7:30 p.m.
LCCA subscription cards are honored at community concerts in four other towns: Kendallville, LaPorte, Auburn and Kokomo. Reciprocal schedules are available.
