Former Silver Lake Foundry Found Clear of Lead

Posted
An investigation by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management has been verified by the Environmental Protection Agency and cleared a former foundry in Silver Lake of any contamination.

On April 25, the Times-Union reported that IDEM was set to look at the former Pb Foundry location at 9136 Ind. 15S, north of Silver Lake.

The location appeared on a list of potentially contaminated  facilities in a piece called “Ghost Factories: Poison in the Ground” in USA Today.

The article examined potentially contaminated sites, many in the U.S. Rust Belt.

Indiana had six locations on the list.

The Pb Company was open for about two years and closed in 1983.

The plant was set up to melt lead from batteries.

In a checklist by IDEM that was verified by the EPA, it showed that no contamination was found on the property.
