CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The death of a former Pierceton woman in North Carolina was ruled a homicide by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner's Office.
Ashlie Nicole Alley Campbell, 20, of Mooresville, N.C., suffered multiple stab wounds in an attack allegedly perpetrated by her estranged husband.
Duane Lamar Campbell, 24, of Kannapolis, N.C., was arrested in connection with the death a short time after the 8:22 a.m. Tuesday incident at Window and Door Systems in Charlotte, where Mrs. Campbell was employed. Police said the two were living apart for at least a couple weeks prior to the alleged attack and, possibly, had been separated for a couple months.
According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department press release, a co-worker found the injured woman and called 911. Mrs. Campbell was taken to Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, where she was pronounced dead at 9:05 a.m. Tuesday.
Mr. Campbell was the suspect in the murder investigation and a description of him and his car were broadcast to area police. He was located in his vehicle, driving on Interstate 85, near the Highway 29/49 connector, east of Charlotte, at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. Police performed a traffic stop and arrested him without incident, the media information sheet noted. He is charged with her murder.
Ashlie Alley's obituary appears on Page 3A of today's Times-Union.
