Former Leesburg Girl Dies in Marshall County Crash

Posted
PLYMOUTH – A 19-year-old formerly of Leesburg died in a car crash Friday morning on U.S. 31 in Marshall County.
According to a news release provided by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at U.S. 31 and 7B Road around 11 a.m. Friday. The report states that a 1999 Honda, driven by Madelyn N. Stephenson, 19, formerly of Leesburg and now of Granger, was southbound in the driving lane of U.S. 31 with a semi-tractor following behind in the passing lane. For unknown reasons, Stephenson turned into the path of the semi and it struck her vehicle on the driver’s side. Both vehicles then came to rest in the median.
Plymouth Fire Department and EMS extricated Stephenson from her vehicle and she was flown to Memorial Hospital via Med Flight. She later died from injuries suffered in the collision.
The driver of the semi, Brock D. Sanders, 44, South Bend, was uninjured.
Indiana State Police assisted in the accident investigation and it is believed that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Stephenson’s obituary appears on page 3A in today’s Times-Union.
