The former secretary of the local Fraternal Order of Eagles has been arrested and charged with embezzling more than $25,000 from the not-for-profit club.
Carl Eugene Rensberger, 52, of 3529 W. CR 100S, Warsaw, was booked into Kosciusko County Jail just before 5 p.m. Thursday on two counts of felony theft, accused of using Eagles Lodge funds for personal use for about two years.
An investigation by Warsaw Police Dept. detectives found that during his time as Lodge secretary, Rensberger allegedly took $11,000 from an ATM in the lodge at 1400 W. Center St., Warsaw, and swindled Lodge business and operating accounts for money for personal use.
An audit showed Rensberger embezzled some $25,000 from the lodge in total, detectives said.
As secretary, Rensberger oversaw the books for the local Eagles lodge.
In addition to the embezzlement scheme, Eagles officials are trying to recoup $6,900 spent to perform an audit, Warsaw police said.
Detectives are still looking into the misappropriations, working to determine if others had a role in the scheme.
Rensberger is being held in Kosciusko County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
