Quick thinking by several people at a Pee Wee football game in Warsaw Saturday saved the life of a heart attack victim.

John Carroll Sr., of Pierceton, is recovering at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne after suffering a heart attack at the Pee Wee football game at Fisher Field Saturday.

According to Warsaw Police Officer Randal L. Hart, who responded to the emergency call, paramedics said quick action by several bystanders saved Carroll's life.

Larry Williams, Anchorage Road, Warsaw, and Robin Stephens, a licensed practical nurse, were on the scene at the time of Carroll's heart attack. They administered CPR immediately, along with North Webster EMT Jim Alexander.

The efforts of Williams, Stephens and Alexander kept Carroll alive until an ambulance arrived, and shock paddles were used to get Carroll's heart beating regularly.

Hart said Williams and Stephens were attending the football game; Alexander works at the Pee Wee games weekly in case of accident or injury.

Also assisting at the incident was Darlene Eherenman, who works with Multi-Township EMS, Warsaw.

Carroll was stabilized at Kosciusko Community Hospital and later transferred to Parkview's cardiac unit. He is listed in good condition and has been moved out of the cardiac unit.
