The owner of a Warsaw home escaped without injury Tuesday after food left on a range stove top caught fire. According to Battalion Chief Rob Barker of Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory, the department responded to 1010 E. Smith St., Warsaw, around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Owner and occupant Juan Buitrago was out of the structure and not injured. Barker said food left on the stove had caught fire, though the blaze was contained the kitchen with slight extension up the range hood and into the attic. The blaze was under control in less than 10 minutes. There was an estimated $15,000 in damage to the property and an estimated $10,000 in content lost in the fire. The family was displaced and assisted by Kosciusko County Red Cross volunteers at the scene. Also assisting was Winona Lake Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS.
