Food Drive Helps Local Families In Need

Posted
The 22nd annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive May 10 collected 14,922 pounds of food.
The annual event takes place the second Saturday in May.
Local letter carriers, in conjunction with The United Way of Kosciusko County and Campbell Soup Company, requested residents to participate in the food drive. It’s the largest one-day nationwide food drive and is designed to make a difference in the lives of those in need of food.
Residents placed bags of non-perishable food items such as canned goods, cereal and rice at their mailbox. The food was then taken to the post office by letter carriers and vans provided by Kosciusko Community Senior Services. This allowed letter carriers, who walk their route, the needed assistance for the food drive.
Post offices in Warsaw, Winona Lake, Pierceton, Milford/Leesburg, North Webster, Burket and Claypool reported 14,922 pounds of food was collected.
Items collected in the Warsaw and Winona Lake area were distributed to Combined Community Services and The Salvation Army pantries; food gathered in Pierceton was for the Washington Township Food Pantry; Milford/Leesburg gave to Harvest with a Heart; North Webster gave to North Webster Area Community Service; and Claypool and Burket donated to their church pantries.
