Posted

The homeowners of a house at 621 E. Fort Wayne St., Warsaw, escaped without injury early Saturday after it was discovered their home was on fire.

Scott and Leeanna Slone were apparently preparing to go to bed about 2:20 a.m. Saturday when they smelled something "hot" and went to investigate. The couple saw a haze in the house and called the fire department.

The house was a total loss, according to a Warsaw Fire Department spokesman. It is not known whether the smoke alarms in the house sounded. The value of the home was estimated at $113,000, with the contents valued at $79,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A fireman at the scene reportedly suffered chest pains. Jon Swoverland was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, for treatment and later released.

Assisting at the scene was a crew from Multi-Township Emergency Medical Service.
