Fire Damages Home; Woman Suffers Burns

Posted

SIDNEY - A Sidney woman was injured Monday night in a fire at her residence.

Linda Cripe suffered burns while escaping her burning home at 4545 E. CR 1000S. Cripe's husband, David, was at work when the fire began about 10:21 p.m.

According to Sidney Fire Department Chief Kevin Wagoner, it is believed the fire began in the garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not available.

Wagoner said the fire was mostly contained to the attached garage and porch of the home.

Linda Cripe, who recently underwent foot surgery, apparently exited the home across the burning porch. Wagoner said Cripe had some trouble getting out of the house because of her physical condition.

She was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Regional Burn Center, Fort Wayne, where she was listed in fair condition this morning.

SFD was assisted at the scene by firefighters from Pierceton, Chester Township and North Manchester fire departments.

The fire was under control after about 30 minutes, Wagoner said, and most of the crews left the scene about 2 a.m.
