Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
Approximately 30 North Webster and Plain Township firefighters responded to a house fire on Kalorama Road in North Webster around 4 p.m. Sunday.
According to North Webster Fire Chief Jeremy Likens, the fire started in a kitchen near a mechanical room where a kerosene heater was left burning unattended to keep pipes from freezing. No one was in the residence, owned by Jan Beedle, at the time of the fire.
A passerby saw flames coming from a first floor window and called the fire department. One firefighter was injured when he slipped on ice at the scene of the blaze. He was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital and treated for a knee injury and released. Damage from the fire is estimated at $40,000. Fire departments from Syracuse and Pierceton were on standby during the blaze.
