Posted
WINONA LAKE - Bicycle enthusiasts of all ages had the opportunity Saturday and Sunday to show off their bicycling skills in Winona Lake.

The fourth annual Northern Indiana Fat and Skinny Tire Fest was held in the Village at Winona. The event was sponsored by The Village at Winona, the KCV Cycling Club and Trailhouse.

Robbie Gast, chairperson for this year's event, said there was a good turnout.

"We had 3,000 people attend the event and bicyclists from as far as Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio participated," Gast said.He said, from talking to bicyclists, this year's festival was the best one yet.

A Kids Wild Ride Bike Art Decorating and Parade was one of the many events held Saturday. Children decorated their bicycles with flowers, racing flags, balloons, streamers and colorful bicycle spokes.

Other events during the weekend included mountain bike races throughout the Winona Lake bike trails, a road race outlining the town's island and the annual orthopedic cup event, which pinned numerous volunteers from local companies against each other in a low-speed, high-energy relay race.

The day continued with Do Indiana Off-Road Series racing for men and women who raced their bicycles along Winona Lake's Heritage Trail.

A BMX Freestyle Show was held Saturday where bicyclists completed flips and turns.

While many professionals from around the Midwest competed in the major road race, others participated in the smaller road and trail races.

Those who attended the event also participated in Historical Winona Lake bike tours.
