WINONA LAKE – The 11th annual Fat and Skinny Tire Festival in Winona Lake is May 17 to 19.
The three-day event will feature bicycling events, activities and programs for all skill levels, according to Mike Cusick, race director.
More than 5,000 cycling enthusiasts and 750 participants of all ages from the Warsaw and Winona Lake community, as well as competitors and riders from a six-state proximity (Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) will participate.
Locals can participate in the event May 16 at Light Rail Cafe and Roaster in the Village at Winona at 7 a.m. for free coffee and snacks before riding to work.
After work, head to the Cerulean Garden from 4 to 6:30 p.m. for a free beer (if people rode to work) or beverage, to get ready for the Kick-off Party.
The May 17 kickoff of Fat & Skinny Tire Fest has become the highlight of the weekend for many, according to a press release provided.
The party starts at 6:30 p.m. with the opening ceremony and the all-size-tires Community Critical Mass ride starting at 7 p.m. at the Trailhouse in the Village at Winona, and finishing at Mad Anthony’s Lake City Taphouse, downtown Warsaw.
At 7:30 p.m., a high-flying BMX stunt show will get everyone ready for the bike videos, which will be followed by live music (featuring the Funk Park Rangers) at 9 p.m. inside the Taphouse.
Join the group May 17 for a multi-length tour – a Bicycle Indiana benefit ride. The south route will take participants through the hilly terrain and farmland of Kosciusko. There will be food and drinks that will be included, and a free lunch will be served back in the Village at Winona after the ride, complements of the Cerulean Garden.
Registration bags will have special coupons and goodies from The Village at Winona and the Fat & Skinny Tire Festival.
On May 17 from 1 to 3 p.m., the group will host a free Historical Winona Tour, a four-mile leisurely cruise. Register on site at the Festival Info Booth.
The May 17 Fat & Skinny Mountain bike race kicks off the yearly Do INdiana Offroad series, one of Indiana’s top series, according to the release. Multiple categories for all ages and talent levels will race one-half to three laps. Each lap is approximately nine miles.
