Farmers Market Kicks Off In Warsaw In May

Posted
Kosciusko County Farmers Market will kick off May 4 in downtown Warsaw.
Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved  an agreement Friday to use the new city hall parking lot on Saturdays from May 4 to Oct. 26 for the Kosciusko County Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Kegan Burns, Kosciusko County Farmers Market president, attended Friday’s meeting to speak about the farmers market.
“Events of the past have shaped the vision of the future, and with the success of our downtown location on Saturdays last year we felt like centralizing the market would be beneficial  to us and our customers,” Burns said.
He said that is why the new city hall plaza will be used for the farmers market with no intentions of street closures Wednesday evenings, but there will be street closures Saturdays. The farmers market was previously on Center Street.
Burns said the farmers market has extended its hours by one hour Saturdays. The market previously was open until noon on Saturdays, and now will be open until 1 p.m.
Also new this year, the market will be open Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m at the city plaza. The market will be open on Wednesdays from June 5 to Oct. 30.
Bands will play during the farmers market.
Keegan said the market hopes to have more craft and produce vendors this year, and have been in discussion with Lakeland Art Association for them to participate in the market.
Produce that does not sell at the farmers market will be donated to Combined Community Services for clients in its Healthy Choices program.
