Posted

BURKET - A family pet was lost in a house fire in Burket early Thursday morning.
According to the Burket Fire and Rescue Facebook page, at approximately 1:08 a.m. Thursday, the Burket Fire Department was dispatched for a possible structure fire in the area of CR 500 South. Engine 2-1 arrived and confirmed a working fire in a single-wide house trailer.
With the fire well involved upon the fire department’s arrival, a defensive attack was initiated. The fire was under control within about an hour.
Burket Fire Chief Kevin McSherry said the trailer at 6663-8 W. CR 500S, the eighth unit in the Burket Mobile Home Park, was a total loss.
The American Red Cross was called for the renters of the trailer, but the occupants went to stay with family, McSherry said.
Mutual aid was provided by the Mentone Fire Department, Claypool Fire Department, Silver Lake Fire Department and Lutheran EMS.
Except for the pet, no other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
