NORTH WEBSTER – A fire Wednesday heavily damaged a North Webster home and killed the family pet.

North Webster Fire Department responded at 1:38 p.m. Wednesday to 420 W. Crystal Flash Road after a passerby called and said a house was on fire.

When firefighters arrived they saw flames shooting out the back of the house, NWFD Chief Jeremy Likens said. No one was home at the time except a dog, who did not survive the fire. No injuries were reported.

The home is owned by Adam and Charisse Gunkel. Estimated damage is at least $60,000, with substantial heavy smoke and water damage, Likens said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family.

NWFD was assisted by North Webster EMS and Syracuse Fire Department.
