More than 300 families have been “adopted” through Combined Community Services’ Adopt-A-Family program this year.
But according to CCS Director of Client Assistance Peggi Lisenbee-Wright, there are still families in Kosciusko County on the list that will need help this year to have a Christmas at all.
“We’re at 300 families, that’s a lot,” she said.
Lisenbee-Wright said CCS is still hoping people will come in and adopt one or more of the families remaining in the program.
Besides the list of families still in need, Lisenbee-Wright said CCS also needs specific gift cards to local grocery stores, department stores and fast food restaurants to help the families CCS is shopping for this holiday season.
The annual toy fund supported by CCS also currently has received no monetary donations to help buy toys.
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the annual toy consignment sale at the Kosciusko County fairgrounds. With half of the proceeds, CCS buys new toys and gives them away at the CCS toy giveaway Dec. 20-21. The toy fund for the giveaway provides additional money to purchase toys, but no one has given to the fund.
Monetary donations for the toy give away is needed by Monday. Donations can be dropped off or mailed to CCS. If writing a check, write “toy giveaway” in the memo line.
Lisenbee-Wright said she bet CCS will beat the record number of children they’ve helped once all the numbers are added up this year.
“The people in the community are wonderful,” she said.
CCS just needs more people to open their hearts to help make Christmas merry for everyone in Kosciusko County, she said.
