Staff Report-
European Union antitrust regulators will decide by Oct. 3 whether to approve Zimmer Holdings’ purchase of Biomet Inc. for $13.4 billion, Reuters reports. The European Commission’s options are to clear the deal unconditionally, demand concessions to ease competition concerns or open a broad investigation, according to the news agency. Zimmer in June applied for EU approval of the purchase but regulators paused review, saying the company's submission lacked some details. The Federal Trade Commission requested additional information on the transaction in July under the requirements of antritrust law. The two Warsaw-based orthopedic companies have said they expect to close the deal in the first quarter of 2015.
