Etna Green Mulls Hiring 'Money Finder'

Posted

ETNA GREEN - A "money finder" offered her services to the town Tuesday during the Etna Green Town Council meeting.

Shannon McLeod, owner of Priority Project Resources, said there are many sources for funding various projects available through state, federal and private foundation grants. As a grant writer, McLeod said, she is able to locate the proper venue for whatever project the town may choose to undertake.

"I'm here to find out what's going on in the community," McLeod said. "What are some of the wants and how can I assist you?"

Town officials kicked around a few ideas, including establishing a senior center and/or a library.

McLeod said a future project funding needs assessment could be conducted, with members of the community invited to offer ideas as to what they would like to see change in town.

The council took the matter under advisement and will contact McLeod at a later date.

In other matters, the council will work on establishing a lease with Knight Wennerstrom for the wall that the mural is painted on at Remembrance Park.

Wennerstrom, who owns the building on which the mural is painted, rejected a request for a 50-year lease and is willing to sign no more than a two-year lease. In exchange for the lease, the town would write off nearly $300 in unpaid sewer fees.

The council doesn't think two years is an adequate lease and will continue negotiations in the matter.

Council members said residents should remember that there is a leash law in town and animals should be kept on their owners' property.

The town has received several complaints about dogs running at large and "messing" in other people's yards.

In other business, the council:

• Signed a contract with Mike's Lawn Service for the season's mowing and spring and fall cleanup at a cost of $3,600.

• Agreed to allow town employees to take the town's bucket truck to Bourbon at the request of Triton School Corp. to change light bulbs in the school parking lots. The work will be done for $50 per visit, plus $50 per hour after the first hour.

• Announced large-item trash pickups are set for May 2 and 9. A list of collectible items will be posted.

Etna Green Town Council members are Eileen Hall, Jeff Klinefelter and Andy Cook. The council meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the fire station meeting room.
