ETNA GREEN -ÊOne person was killed and two people were injured in an accident at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 19 in Etna Green Friday night.

Jeffery M. White, 36, of Walnut St., Etna Green, suffered massive head injuries and was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where he underwent emergency surgery. He was pronounced dead from his injuries around 4 a.m. Saturday.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, witnesses said a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Bryan E. Donaugh, 23, of South Bend, ran a red light at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 19, hitting White's northbound white 1996 Chevrolet Lumina around 6:20 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses told police that White was facing north at the light when it turned green, and he began to move across the intersection. Donaugh's eastbound vehicle went through the red light and struck White's Lumina at a right angle.

After the initial collision, White's car hit a semi-tractor-trailer stopped on U.S. 30 at the intersection. The driver of the semi, Monte A. Owens, 53, of Osmond, N.C., was not injured in the crash.

Donaugh and a passenger in his vehicle, Ashley Donaugh, 22, of South Bend, each complained of chest pain and were treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital and later released.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

The Atwood and Etna Green fire departments, Multi-Township EMS and the Bourbon Police Department assisted at the scene of the crash.
