Posted

ETNA GREEN - The Etna Green Town Council discussed upcoming changes to trash and recycling services during a brief meeting on Tuesday.
At their November meeting, council approved entering a five-year contract with Apex Waste for trash and recycling services beginning in 2026. Republic Services, Etna Green's current provider, will collect its bins from residents from Dec. 29-31. Residents are asked to place both their trash and recycling bins from Republic at the curb during that timeframe.
Apex will begin dropping off its new bins to residents on Monday, Dec. 22. Trash collection will occur on Wednesdays, with the first day of service being Jan. 7. Recycling services will occur every other Monday, with recycling beginning Jan. 12.
Bulk clean-up dates have also been scheduled for town and are as follows: March 25, June 24, Sept. 28 and Dec. 26. Clerk-Treasurer Ann Anglin said if residents have any issues with Apex's services to contact the clerk-treasurer's office so the town can reach out to Apex representatives.
Council also:
• Asked town attorney Nick Jacobs to look into drafting an ordinance related to shipping containers for commercial businesses in town.
• Announced the grant application Etna Green submitted for a new tornado siren was declined.
• Said there are no updates yet on the Community Development Block Grant the town applied for.
• Announced Santa will be at Heritage Park from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.
• Announced Brenda Chilton as Etna Green's new utility clerk.
• Heard from Kosciusko County Councilman Joe Irwin, who said he's planning to attend more Etna Green council meetings in the future.
• Asked the community to keep Council member Susan Klinefelter in their prayers. Council President Heath Roberts said Klinefelter, who was absent from the meeting, is currently experiencing health issues.
Council's next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.
