ETNA GREEN - Effective Jan. 1, the position of clerk-treasurer in Etna Green will become a full-time job.
The Etna Green Town Council decided Tuesday to change the job from part time to full time in a 2-1 vote, with Eileen Hall and Andy Cook in favor of the change and Jeff Klinefelter against.
After Hall made the motion for the change, there was no discussion about the matter and Klinefelter offered no explanation for his dissent.
In making the motion, Hall said repeated complaints that the clerk-treasurer isn't always available when she is needed was a driving force in promoting the change. The council also sometimes has difficulty scheduling executive sessions when the clerk can attend.
The change increases the annual salary for the clerk-treasurer from $12,000 as a part-time position to $22,000 for the full-time job. The clerk-treasurer also will receive an annual $2,000 IRA contribution and will be eligible for enrollment on the town's health insurance coverage.
The council also hired Kevin Smith to fill the position of electric superintendent. He is expected to start work on or before Dec. 26.
Smith replaces David Fritzel, who resigned in October. He will receive an annual salary of $30,000, a $2,000 annual IRA contribution after his first year of employment and health insurance through the town's policy.
