Etna Green Changes Ordinance to Accept Outside Water Customers

Posted
ETNA GREEN – Town Council amended the utility ordinance Tuesday to include customers from outside town.
An addition to the ordinance referring to “interested parties” will allow the town to bill those who live outside town limits who are interested in hooking into the water service.
Also Tuesday, the town approved an agreement with Commonwealth Engineers Inc. for up to $10,000 for any consulting needed for town utilities. Etna Green has been working with the firm to bring its wastewater treatment plant into compliance with state rules after the addition of Winona Powder Coating Inc. as a customer.
And council declined a request from resident Chris Irwin to reduce his water bill nearly doubled to 10,000 gallons of use. He said he could not find any leaks.
Council members said that kind of usage is possible with as little as a faucet leaking or toilet running for a few days.
“Unless we know where the water went, we have to assume it went in and out,” council member Andy Cook said.
The town did, however, agree to allow Irwin to pay the bill in installments.
