Elkhart Man Critical After Vehicle Hits Porch, Flips

An Elkhart man remains in critical condition today after a 3:24 p.m. accident near Warsaw Community High School, Tuesday.

Braden R. Goodbody, 35, was reportedly in two accidents Tuesday, minutes apart, which, according to witnesses, Goodbody caused.

The first accident reportedly occurred at the intersection of CR 200S and Ind. 15.

Goodbody allegedly rear-ended a white box truck, then quickly left the scene of the accident. He spun out of control in Ind. 15's south-bound lane, narrowly missing two cars, then quickly accelerated, heading north.

At the intersection of Administration Drive and Ind. 15, just over a mile north of the CR 200S accident, Goodbody lost control of his sport utility vehicle rounding a curve, running into a tree and a brick porch. The SUV then flipped and landed on its top, trapping Goodbody inside.

Emergency personnel removed the unconscious Goodbody with an extrication device and took him to Kosciusko Community Hospital via ambulance.

From KCH he was airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, and admitted in critical condition, where he remains today. He suffered head and chest injuries in the crash.

One accident witness, former Warsaw police chief Craig J. Allebach, estimated Goodbody's speed prior to the second crash at between 70-75 miles per hour. The posted speed limit is 35 mph.

Witnesses to both accidents said the vehicle Goodbody was driving was involved in the hit-and-run at CR 200S and the crash near Administration Drive.

Alcohol and drug tests were taken and results should be available next week. No registration information for the vehicle or next of kin information for the driver was found.
