COLUMBIA CITY – A 74-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease has died after she apparently left her apartment and ended up in a nearby pond located at 7550 W. CR 500S in South Whitley. Indiana conservation officers say that Bonnie Knetter wasn't home when some of her relatives came to her apartment Sunday morning to check in on her. Knetter's relatives began looking for her and then called 911 after finding her floating in a pond a few hundred feet from her home, according to a release from the Indiana Conservation Office in Columbia City. Knetter was unresponsive when conservation officers pulled her from the water and she was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is planned for today to determine her cause of death. Agencies assisting included the South Whitley Police Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and Whitley County EMS.
