Early Morning Fire Sends 3 To Hospital

Posted
Three residents were hospitalized early today after fire broke out at a west-central home.
The Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory was called just after 4:30 a.m. to a home at 206 S. Union St. on a report of a house fire. When crews arrived, they found a neighbor helping two women escape the burning single-story home, according to fire marshal and spokesman Mike Wilson.
Those women - homeowner Annabelle Slone and her friend, Rebecca Gobal - were taken to Kosciusko County Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, Wilson said. The neighbor, Nathaniel Kintzel, also was hospitalized for injuries suffered during the rescue.
All three have been released, with Fire Chief Mike Rice describing their injuries as “minor”.
Firefighters from Station One responded to the blaze, extinguishing the flames within minutes. Wilson said the home sustained some $60,000 in damage.
Fire investigators remained on the scene at press time, working to establish a cause to the fire. Rice said one has not yet been established and it remains under investigation by the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Crews from the Winona Lake Fire Department, the Warsaw Police Department and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the call.
