The drowning victim whose body was pulled from the water at the Leesburg Gravel Pit Aug. 11 was intoxicated.

Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd said today that results of tests performed on 36-year-old Avon I. Castillo of Leesburg showed that his blood-alcohol level was .203 percent at the time of his death.

A person is considered intoxicated in Indiana if his blood-alcohol level is .10 percent or greater.

Castillo was attempting to swim to an island in the gravel pit when he began to struggle and call for help. His friends were unable to reach him before he went under water.

His body was later found tangled in weeds in about 8 feet of water.
