Donnelley Big Winner In 'Battle Of The Brains 2'

Posted

In the second annual Battle of the Brains Tuesday, the team from R.R. Donnelley and Sons took top honors at Warsaw Community High School's Career Center Gym.

The Donnelley team earned their position by correctly answering a variety of trivia questions in such categories as U.S. presidents; the '60s; Indiana food, sports, movies, people, agriculture, government, business and economics; and academic disciplines such as science, arts, math, language arts and social studies.

Each of the 25 teams that competed had 30 seconds to discuss and answer each multiple choice question, such as: Who was the first Indiana athlete to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated? (Rick Mount) What president was known as Leslie King Jr.? (Gerald Ford) Who was the youngest president to assume office? (Theodore Roosevelt - the key word is "assume")

The event was a fund-raiser for the Warsaw Community Foundation for Public Education Inc., which sponsors programs for Warsaw Community Schools through a partnership program, mini-grants, special events and the A-1 "Academics First" program. Every team paid $150 to compete, raising $3,750 for the foundation.

Other teams in the top five were: second place, tie, Penguin Point and Source One Insurance; third place, Times-Union; fourth place, Grossnickle Eye Center.
