Domestic Battery Alleged In SyracuseA Syracuse man faces multiple domestic battery charges after hitting a woman with his fist and then attempting to strangle her while children were present.
Nolan Kyle Melchi, 37, of 11732 N. Elm Grove Drive, Syracuse, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:47 a.m. June 21 with a preliminary bond set at $5,250.
Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against him as strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; domestic battery with moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony; residential entry, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. It lists Melchi’s bond as $10,000 surety and $2,500 cash.
On June 14, Syracuse Police Department officer Joseph Keene spoke with a woman at the police department in reference to a domestic battery. She had a black eye and a swollen lip with a cut.
The woman told Keene that she was sleeping during the early morning hours of June 14 when she heard a person enter her residence. She discovered Melchi had entered her home without her consent. He was accompanied by two children, only identified in court records as “AA” and “BB.”
The woman and Melchi got into an argument. She told Melchi to leave, but then he hit her mouth with his fist, causing her pain and knocking her to the ground, according to court documents. Melchi then began to use his arm to apply pressure to the woman’s neck until she could not breathe. The woman said the entire incident occurred in front of both of the children.
On June 15, Keene went to 11732 N. Elm Grove Drive in an attempt to speak with Melchi, but he was not there.
