Grace College student teacher and basketball player Jacob Peattie (pictured) was the first hero of the night Thursday during the sixth annual Family Fun Night.
Family Fun Night collects non-perishable food items for Combined Community Services as part of the Food-A-Thon. This year, four schools took part in the Family Fun Night, including Harrison, Jefferson, Lincoln and Leesburg.
In the first game, with Harrison Elementary staff pitted against Jefferson’s staff, Jefferson kept eliminating the Harrison staff until only Peattie remained. Peattie kept throwing balls and dodging ones thrown at him.
He survived, and finally knocked out the last two players on the Jefferson team. Students and teammates rushed to the floor to congratulate his victory against the odds.
In the second round, Leesburg, with his large number of players, quickly took out the Lincoln team. Winning the single-elimination dodgeball tournament was Harrison Elementary.
Students who brought in five or more canned food items then got to participate in a game of dodgeball. In all, more than 10,000 food items were collected for CCS.
