DePuy Makes Donation To New Orleans Park

Posted
DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. donated a substantial amount of funds and staff to help rebuild portions of New Orleans City Park that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Several hundred employees and sales representatives who attended DePuy's annual sales meeting donated their time to participate in the restoration project.

"The goal of this community service project was to help restore a portion of the park's Botanical Garden as well as repainting the park's main visitors building, which is officially named the Timken Center, but is better known as 'The Casino.' Thanks to the generosity of companies like DePuy, we are able to return parts of the park to their original beauty," said Lisa Laraway, the park's volunteer coordinator.

Mark Starring, distributor for DePuy in New Orleans, said, "As a resident of New Orleans, I'm grateful to be a part of a project that will help return my city park to some of its glory."

Hurricane Katrina caused approximately $43 million in damages to the New Orleans City Park. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, the park had 262 employees, while today it has just more than 40.
